Red Oaks in Ky

Recommended Posts

We hunted Oct 16th after the massive cold front swept through. 3 of us hunt that evening. 2 hunted oaks flats and 1 hunted the cut corn. Previous weeks the deer were pounding the cut corn. The deer seemed to of shifted to the red oaks that are dropping big time. If your in a lull I highly suggest a quick scouting mission to find the nut trees

Good to know. I'm heading down to Kentucky for the early muzzleloader season. I'll check to see if the acorns are dropping when I get there this afternoon. I have a ladder stand on a oak ridge that should be a good spot if the wind is right.

It’s turned out to be a much better mast crop here in KY than originally thought. It’s still hit or miss to some degree but many areas have an abundance of acorns. Good luck to you this weekend during the smokepole season and stay safe!
